Step 3: Receive Your Report
You’ll get a PDF report including a summary of all names searched for your records, plus individual, serially-numbered certificates for each name - each showing time, date, outcome, serial number, and the date of the dataset checked against, to prove your due diligence.
Why You Must Do This
As of 31 January 2024, it is a criminal offence under the UK Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018 to rent to someone on the UK Sanctions List. Landlords and letting agents must verify tenant identities against the UK Consolidated Sanctions List, maintained by the Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI).
Employers can also demonstrate a higher duty of care by screening prospective employees against the same sanctions list before hire. Performing a sanctions check is best practice for all organisations that need to mitigate risk and prove due diligence.
